ADJUSTABLE DOWEL MAKER JIG Imperial Size

This little jig has saved me a few trips to the hardware store. I have several thicker gauge dowel rods laying around my garage. I've had requirements to use smaller diameter dowels for some projects. This jig is pretty easy to use with my rods. I've just had to cut the rods down into a workable length so that they don't bend too much when pushing into the jig. The result of the jig is a rougher cut dowel but they work great. The jig is well built and should last a long time. My only nit is I wish the adjustable blade was tool less. It's not a big deal since I don't adjust the blade that often, again just a nit.

I was skeptical at first, but this dowel maker jig is a game-changer. It's easy to use and has saved me so much time on my projects. Worth every penny!

If you use a lot of dowels in your wood working, especially of different sizes, this is a must have. As simple to use as it looks to be. Various diameters of dowels at your convenience, simply insert a dowel into the chuck of your drill, choose the diameter you need and voila, a perfect sized dowel every time. That easy….

This KETEPED Rod Milling tool is cleverly designed and solidly constructed. It arrived here without any instruction, but basic concepts are easily understood from the photos on the website page. Just how to best mount a square piece in the drill was a bit of a mystery. We chose to test with a 12mm+ dia. hard maple square. It was sawn just a fat sniff larger than the desired rod. We then 'turned' a cylinder on one end of the square using a disc sander . We 'tapered' the other end a bit with the disc. After mounting the cylindrical end in a Milwaukee corded drill, we easily turned the desired shape, about 16" long. Smart Bears use a slow feed and high drill RPM to get the smoothest finish. A strip of abrasive paper wrapped around the emerged rod would further smooth the finish.
Because of the difficulty in producing a particular, smooth diameter, some other means would likely be better if a precisely sized dowel is needed to fit snug in a sized hole. Still, for wall pegs, pins, informal parts, etc. this tool will certainly come in handy. ~ The Duffian

was a lot better than I expected and it does take some time to figure out how to use it. Basically, it is a giant pencil sharpener that you use a drill to make it work. Make sure you have a new battery in, or a corded drill is best, this will take time since you are making a hardwood dowel, not something soft. I rather enjoyed using it and look forward to more projects that call for dowels, and being able to plug a hole with some scrap out of the bin is helpful in time and money.
